A hodographic solution for flow leaving a manifold through a slit
Abstract
The incompressible, irrotational flow down a uniform channel with an open slit in one side is examined. Since the flow is two-dimensional, classical hodograph methods are used to obtain the contraction coefficient and the oblique angle for the flow leaving the slit. The results may have applications to combustor-liner air entry holes, compressor-interstage shroud bleed holes, and struts with jet flaps blowing though trailing-edge holes, even though all these applications involve flow leaving a tube through holes in the sidewall.
