Solid state generators of reproducible ultrashort light pulses of picosecond and subpicosecond durations
Abstract
Recent theoretical and experimental research related to solid state generators of reproducible ultrashort light pulses in the picosecond and subpicosecond ranges is reviewed. In particular, attention is given to the theoretical fundamentals of ultrashort light pulse generation, constraints determining the minimum length of generated pulses, methods of overcoming these constraints, and methods of improving the reproducibility of ultrashort pulse generation by solid state lasers. Experimental results obtained with ruby and Nd-glass lasers generating ultrashort pulses in the stationary mode are reported.
