Determination of the resonance frequencies of elastic thin-walled shells using reference frequencies
Abstract
A method is proposed whereby the resonance frequencies of elastic thin-walled spherical and cylindrical shells of various materials are determined from the resonance frequencies of a similar shell of a reference material. It is shown that for spherical and cylindrical shells, best results are obtained by using aluminum and nickel or zinc, respectively. When used simultanously for both spherical and cylindrical shells, nickel is shown to be the best reference material.
