Astrometry - New vitality for an ancient science
Abstract
Advances in the area of astronomical measurement technology are examined. The effects of VLBI, ground-based optical and IR interferometry, and CCDs on the study of the universe are discussed. The design and capabilities of two space systems, the European High Precision Parallax Collecting Satellite and the Precision Optical Interferometer in Space, are described.
