The automated spectral measurement technique for the classification of F-G-K stars
Abstract
A refined technique for automated spectral line measurements is presented for use in the classification of F-G-K-type stars. A spectral filtration method is proposed in which measured densities are converted into quasi-densities before filtration. It is shown that the spectral measurements are more reliable if a continuous spectrum is registered in two stages. It is suggested that the automated procedure can indicate the spectral and luminosity classes of F-G-K stars. The possible use of a multiple linear regression technique for automated spectral classification is noted.
