An Ultraviolet View of the Luminous Blue Variables
Abstract
The use of UV observations to improve understanding of the placement of luminous blue variables (LBVs) and B(e) stars on the H-R diagram and to describe the characteristics of their photospheres and winds is examined. The low-dispersion spectra of LBVs and their spectral types are discussed. The best-studied LBVs in the Galaxy and the LMC are addressed.
