Dynamics of the solar atmosphere. II - Standing waves in the solar chromosphere
Abstract
A time series of brightness and velocity fluctuations measured simultaneously in three Fraunhofer lines (Ca II 8542, Ca II 8498, Fe I 8496) is analyzed to investigate the oscillatory behavior of the solar chromosphere. The propagation characteristics of waves in the average chromosphere are examined. Apart from nonpropagating oscillations near 6 mHz, the results strongly suggest the existence of a standing wave pattern for the whole continuum of acoustic waves with frequencies beyond the acoustic cut-off frequency.
