The dynamics of the Calabash nebula.
Abstract
The aims of this note are: (1) apply a dynamical model for the formation of aspherical planetary nebulae to an extreme case thereof namely the 'Calabash Nebula' OH 231.8 + 4.2; (2) predict, in first approximation, the isovelocity images of this object. The model consists of a wind-driven shock propagating through a cylindrical symmetric fossil red giant envelope. In order to verify whether the predictions are likely to be correct, they are compared with known isovelocity images of butterfly-type planetary nebulae.
