Neutrino emission from cooling neutron stars.
Abstract
Most interpretations of the neutrinos collected from SN 1987 A assume the emitted spectrum was in a FermiDirac distribution with zero chemical potential. To investigate this assumption, the results of numerical simulations by Bruenn (1987) and Mayle et al. (1987) are examined. Models with a powerlaw atmosphere employing multigroup neutrino transport are also discussed. The numerical spectra are best fit by thermal distributions having small positive chemical potentials.
