Field-to-wire coupling 1 to 18 GHz
Abstract
Most models for field-to-wire calculations assume that the system will propagate only in the TEM mode. To extend the modeling techniques to frequencies greater than 1 GHz, field-to-wire measurements were made on five different types of wire in six different geometries over the frequency range of 1 to 18 GHz. The measurements were used to determine the frequencies at which the TEM models are no longer valid as well as the coupling characteristics at frequencies in the region above the domain of the TEM mode. The measurements and data reduction methods are described, along with results and some conclusions on the limits of the TEM models and what modeling can be done at frequencies where the TEM models are no longer valid.
