Interstellar circular polarization and the dielectric nature of grains.
Abstract
The authors have re-examined the implications of the observed relation between the wavelength dependence of interstellar linear and circular polarization. Mie theory calculations support the Kramers-Kronig interpretation developed by Shapiro (1975). It is demonstrated that the constraints on the optical properties of the grains derived from circular polarization (Martin 1972) resulted from a violation of the Kramers-Kronig relations in the optical constants of grains adopted in the calculations.
