Irregular flows
Abstract
Irregular flows were examined by means of flow visualization methods and hot-wire techniques. When the Reynolds number is small the flow is steady and regular. As the Reynolds number increases, however, the flow becomes irregular. It seems that at large Reynolds numbers the flow generally consists of many structures which fluctuate irregularly. As yet the mechanism by which irregularities occur is not clear.
