One and Two-Neutron Transfer Reactions with Very Heavy Ions.
Abstract
The one and two-neutron transfer reactions with 637 MeV ^{116}Sn and 270 Mev and 345 MeV ^{58}Ni beams on the rare earth ^{161} Dy and ^{162}Dy targets, 325 MeV ^{58}Ni beam on the actinide ^{235}U target, and 570 MeV ^{112}Sn on the spherical nuclei ^{117} Sn and ^{118}Sn targets were measured. These measurements were performed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory using the Tandem, Cyclotron and the Spin Spectrometer. The particle-particle-gamma coincidence method was employed to identify the reaction exit channels; the Spin Spectrometer provided the gamma-ray total energy and multiplicity to identify reaction entry channels. In the present work, the cross sections and probabilities for one and two-neutron transfer reactions were measured; the transfer mechanism and nuclear structure effects are discussed.
