a Langevin Equation Approach to Squeezed States of Light.
Abstract
A vector c-number Langevin equation describing a single mode of the radiation field under the influence of a quadratic nonlinear interaction is considered. The nonlinearity of the interaction is found to give rise to a nonzero diffusion matrix that may be non-positive-definite. An equation for the variance matrix of the system is derived and solved using this diffusion matrix. An analysis of the solutions yields information about the production and properties of squeezing. The role of the non-positive -definite diffusion matrix is delineated through a discussion of the physical source of squeezing.
