Low-Dimensional Magnetism: a Study of Molecular Decamethylferrocenium Tetracyanoethanide.
In this dissertation the molecular ferromagnet Decamethylferrocenium Tetracyanoethanide (DMeFc)(TCNE) is studied. The anisotropic magnetic properties of this system have been examined in light of low-dimensional behavior exhibited by this system at temperatures above the ordering temperature. The critical exponents which accompany ferromagnetic phase transitions are estimated. Magnetic ordering which occurs in (DMeFc)(TCNE) has been examined using neutron diffraction, to observe ferromagnetic enhancement of the Brags peaks and a theoretical framework to understanding the origins of the ferromagnetic exchange in this class of molecular solids is presented.
