New Predictions for Parity Violation in Vector Gauge Boson Production.
Abstract
The standard model of strong and electro-weak interaction predicts an interference at the parton level between gluon and electro-weak boson exchange amplitudes in qq^' longrightarrow qq^' + V, where V = Z^{rm o}, W ^+/- or photon. This leads to the parity-violating flavor- and helicity-independent asymmetries of order 0.1 picro-bar (pb) at TeV energies in the process pp longrightarrow gamma + 2 jets and of order 0.01 pb at TeV energies in the processes pp longrightarrow V^' + 2 jets, where V^' = W ^+/- or Z^{rm o}. For V^' decaying into leptons, the results are smaller by a factor of the leptonic branching ratio. These asymmetries will be observable at Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) energies, and will provide a test of the standard model.
