Laser action in inert gases under transverse-discharge pumping
Abstract
Active media are proposed for laser action at atomic transitions of inert gases under pumping by a self-sustained discharge. Additions of electronegative gases (e.g., NF3) enhanced the pump efficiency and provided for the cleaning of the lower laser level. Laser action at 706.5, 585.3, and 750.3 nm was achieved in He(Ne, Ar)-NF3 mixtures. Experimental results obtained with the ELAN and DILAN exciplex lasers are presented.
