Visual spectra of the Halley Comet obtained by VEGA 2
Abstract
A total of 34 basic spectra of Comet Halley, obtained at 274-704 nm using the three-channel spectrometer on the Soviet Vega 2 probe during its closest approach to the comet on March 9, 1986, are presented. The Vega mission profile and the characteristics of the instruments are briefly described and illustrated with drawings and diagrams.
