Comments on ``geomagnetic response to magnetic clouds'' by Robert M. Wilson
Abstract
A response is given to a paper by Wilson (1987) which tried to show the existence of an association of geomagnetic storm intervals with the passage of interplanetary magnetic clouds at the earth's magnetosphere. It is suggested that Wilson does not account for southward to northward cloud rotation and that it is possible to conclude from the paper that magnetic clouds never lead to intense storms with D(st) values less than -100 nT. A reply by Wilson is presented, discussing these concerns. Also, brief comments by Gonzalez and Gonzalez concerning Wilson's reply are presented.
