Surface and plate waves in layered structures
Abstract
The fundamental theory of waves propagating parallel to boundary surfaces in layered media are reviewed in the light of recent analytical studies made possible with the advent of faster computers. In particular, attention is given to the dispersive and multimode nature of waves in layered structures, characteristic equations and dispersion curves, phase and group velocity, excitation and reception, and critical angle reflectivity and depth considerations. A procedure for the determination of dispersion curves is presented.
