S 147 : a K-type symbiotic star in the LMC.
Abstract
We have discovered the first example of an oxygen-rich symbiotic star in the Large Magellanic Cloud. We show that it involves an asymptotic branch K5 giant. If the unidentified emission bands at 6530, 7088 A can be taken as evidence of a white dwarf, then the hot component is likely to be accreting from the wind of the giant. We point out that the star deserves further study.
