Long-period variables in the Small Magellanic Cloud.
Abstract
The results of a search for large-amplitude red variables in the Radcliffe Variable Star Field of the SMC are presented. Infrared photometry is given for each object found. A comparison is made between the populations of such variable; in the SMC, the LMC and the Galaxy. The period-luminosity relation followed by the mira variables, which are predominantly of carbon type, is found to be consistent with that for the LMC.
