Sounding of interplanetary flare-generated disturbances with Vega spacecraft in January - February 1986.
The Vega 1 and 2 probes performed magnetic measurements as they crossed flare-induced interplanetary disturbances on Jan. 18-19, Feb. 8-9, and Feb. 15-17, 1986. Bow and reverse shocks, magnetic clouds, and a cloud interaction region were identified in the disturbance structure. A comparison is made between disturbances from the doublet of weak (1n) flares on Jan. 15-16 and the doublet of more intense (2n) flares on Feb. 14-15. Normals to the shock fronts and cloud boundaries agree with the hypothesis of specific disturbance oblateness.
