The binary star 70 Ophiuchi revisited.
Abstract
Positional and spectroscopic observations of 70 Oph through the periastron passage of 1984 give a corrected orbit (P = 88.3 yr) and component masses of 0.83 and 0.67 solar masses. The deviations from elliptical motion seem to be entirely due to unusually large systematic errors in the visual measures of the 19th century.
