Intense auroral field-aligned currents and electrojets detected by rocket-borne fluxgate magnetometer
Abstract
High-sensitivity high-sampling-frequency vector magnetometers were flown aboard the S-310JA-11 and -12 rockets launched from Syowa Station, Antarctica, in 1985. Intense field-aligned currents of 400-600 nT were noted when the S-310JA-12 rocket penetrated an active arc during descent. The quiet arcs penetrated by the S-310JA-1 rocket showed no distinguished magnetic field variation due to field-aligned currents and electrojets.
