Interesting features of convection within the plasmasphere
Abstract
Convection within the plasmasphere arises from the rotation of the earth's magnetic field, electric fields in the ionosphere which map up to greater altitudes, and the dawn-dusk magnetospheric electric field produced by the interaction of the solar wind with the earth's magnetic field. It is believed that the contributions of ionospheric and magnetospheric electric fields may give rise to density inhomogeneities and turbulence in the plasmasphere.
