Stability of the permanent rotations of a rigid body
Abstract
A sufficient stability condition for stationary solutions to the Euler-Poisson equations is obtained in polynomial (with respect to the natural parameters) form for the particular case of rotation about the main axis of inertia, and a method for calculating the stability condition is proposed. The method makes use of an invariant formulation of the Arnold-Mozer theorem on the stability of Hamiltonian systems. Details of the calculation procedure are given.
