The High-Resolution Soft X-Ray Spectrum of HZ 43. II. Bolometric X-Ray Flux, Effective Temperature, and Radius
Abstract
The authors present a reanalysis of the high-resolution soft X-ray spectrum of HZ 43, obtained with the 500 lines mm-1 transmission grating spectrometer on EXOSAT. They show here that the estimates of Te and log g from the shape of the X-ray spectrum depend critically on the code used to generate the model spectra, but that the estimates of photospheric helium abundance and interstellar column density are not affected. The authors derive the constraints on Te and R/R_sun; imposed by the total soft X-ray flux. They combine these constraints with those derived from observations in other wavelength bands to arrive at a value for Te and R/R_sun; that satisfies all absolute flux measurements. This procedure yields Te = 45,000 - 54,000K, R/R_sun; = 0.0140 - 0.0165.
