Examples of the influence of a reflecting boundary on gravitational instability
Abstract
The paper deals with the instable modes of homogeneous gravitating stellar systems which are essentially due to the presence of the partially reflecting boundary. Unlike the previous paper, the more realistic two-step velocity distribution is assumed. The conclusion remains valid that the instability of the surface type is possible only provided that the reflection coefficient β < 1/2. If the role of both steps is approximatley the same, two unstable modes are possible.
