Influence of the magnetic field on the spectrum of linear polarization of radiation iof T Tauri-type stars.
Abstract
Spectral distribution of intrinsic linear polarization of radiation of T Tauri-type stars RY Tau, T Tau, SU Aur, RW Aur, and DI Cep has been found. It is shown that the degree of polarization of these stars (except for RY Tau in its low-brightness state) is determined by the optical thickness of the electron shell, and the shape of the wavelength dependence and the location of maximum polarization - by the magnetic field strength. All the observed variations of the polarization spectrum of T Tauri-type stars can be accounted for by the influence of a variable magnetic field, as a result of the Faraday rotation effect. The estimates of magnetic fields of T Tauri-type stars depend on the model of the circumstellar shell: for spherical shells the estimated value of the magnetic field lies between 100 and 500 G, whereas for ellipsoidal shells - between 400 and more than 1000 G.
