Artifical Signal Detectors
Abstract
A strategy for detecting pulsed and CW signals in the framework of SETI is considered along with implementations which capture efficient signal-processing methods in custom VLSI devices. Particular attention is given to the development of a multichannel spectrum analyzer (MCSA), used to match a hypothetical signal to one of 120-million narrow-band filters. A prototype version of the MCSA has been built to test the signal-processing concepts and signal-recognition sensitivities. Finally, VLSI developments are reviewed, with particular emphasis on the SETI DSP engine.
