The Scattering Problem
Abstract
The outcome of an encounter between a binary star and a single star is discussed as well as other types of encounters involving only small numbers of stars. The need for scattering data is demonstrated with particular emphasis placed on scattering phenomena, the role of few-body interactions in astrophysics, and the mathematical scattering problem. Methods for studying scattering are discussed and scattering results are reviewed.
