A probable non-degenerate H-burning flash on the white dwarf of the symbiotic slow nova V1329 Cygni.
Abstract
We review the entire photometric history of V 1329 Cyg and present a set of new B and V magnitudes spanning 4.5 years or almost 2 complete orbital cycles. Taking also advantage of the extensive IUE data in the literature, we derive a number of observational constraints to which every interpretative model must be confronted. We then use these constraints to propose our interpretation of V 1329 Cyg, in terms of a non-degenerate H-burning flash on a luminous white dwarf. Its validity is anyway clearly separated in the text from the experimental evidence of the constraints derived from analysis of the photometric history.
