A determination of q0 by a technique of null correlation
Abstract
A new statistical method to obtain a formal value of the deceleration parameter q_0_ in FriedmannLemaitre models is outlined; no evolution is assumed. With a sample of 116 brightest galaxies of nearby Abell clusters, one obtains q_0_ = 1.2. +/ 0.6. With respect to leastsquare fit methods in the Hubble diagram, this approach has the advantage of being independent of the luminosity function and of selection effects such as the Malmquist effect and the Scott effect, furthermore these effects can be quantitatively estimated.
