The peculiar southern H II region RCW 34.
Abstract
CCD imaging and spectroscopy, UBV photometry, and astrometric measurements are reported for the Galactic H II region RCW 34, which appears to be a nebula with vBH 25a as its exciting star. The data are presented in extensive tables, graphs, and sample images and spectra and discussed in detail. A 100-km/s feature is identified as an ionization front, and it is shown that a new star is forming in a molecular cloud behind this front. The exciting star is classified as a ZAMS star of type O8.5V, at a distance of 2.9 kpc.
