Kinetics of Rydberg states in a hot plasma
Abstract
A general method is proposed for deriving kinetic equations, asymptotically precise in the limiting case of large quantum numbers, for highly excited (Rydberg) atoms in a hot plasma. In the case when radiative processes dominate, the method leads to an integral equation which admits a closedform solution. An analytical solution is obtained for the case when the probability of radiative transitions is described by the Kramers formulas.
