Optical spectra of superluminal sources.
Abstract
The optical spectra of eight superluminal sources in the Pearson-Readhead VLBI sample are discussed, in an effort to determine whether or not superluminal sources can be recognized by their optical spectra. It is concluded that superluminal sources can not be recognized by optical spectra, however, the observations support the superluminal-blazar connection studied by Impey (1987). Both of the narrow-line blazars in the Pearson-Readhead sample are superluminal.
