The iterative radiance model of the Meteorological Institute of the University of Munich (West Germany)
Abstract
A radiation transport model for the short wavelength spectral range is presented. The model for the radiation field in the system Earth-atmosphere is based on the iterative successive order of scattering method. Thermal radiation is neglected, but multiple scattering is taken into account. The theoretical fundamentals of the one-dimensional (optical thickness is the vertical coordinate) radiation transport model, and its limitations are presented. The model can be used universally, and is programmed to be storage-capacity friendly. The properties of the program and its peripheral programs are outlined.
