Solar distortion measurements
Abstract
Highly accurate solar limb temperature and shape observations were obtained from Mt Wilson using a highly specialized telescope. The solar oblateness appears to fluctuate on a time scale of years. A latitude dependent solar limb temperature variation exists with a temperature amplitude of about 0.6k. This temperature variation is independent of the solar cycle.
