Numerical theoretical models of the ionosphere and prospects of their use for ionospheric forecasting
Abstract
The current status of numerical models of the ionosphere is reviewed. Attention is given to problems connected with the development of a self-consistent global model of the ionosphere suitable for the description of both quiet and disturbed conditions. Problems connected with the computer implementation of such a model are considered along with its practical use for the short-term and long-term forecasting of the state of the ionosphere.
