Parametric generation of edge waves
Abstract
The nonlinear synchronous excitation of edge waves on a shoal with a constant floor inclination by a wave normal to the coast is investigated. A new class of solutions is derived in the shallow water approximation for the envelopes of the edge waves as combinations of solitons of the sine-Gordon equation. The parametric generation excitation threshold is calculated. The efficiency of nonlinear transformation of wave energy from parametric pumping into shoal-captured wave energy is estimated.
