Accumulation of solid bodies in the solar nebula
Abstract
Current theories on the accretion of the planets from the solar nebula are reviewed. The settling of solid material to the central plane of the nebula and the formation of planetesimals is reviewed for both the case of a laminar nebula and a turbulent nebula. The advances that have been made in understanding the accumulation of the terrestrial and giant planets in the solar nebula are reviewed along with the remaining problems.
