Solution of the compressible NavierStokes equations by leastsquares and finite element methods
Abstract
Numerical simulation techniques for compressible viscous flows are examined in an analytical review, considering both implicit and semiimplicit methods. The procedures discussed employ P1 finite elements, leastsquares formulations, and a centered approximation without artificial viscosity. Particular attention is given to the governing equations, the initial and boundary conditions, the transformation of the equations, and the time and space discretizations. Typical numerical results are presented in extensive tables and graphs and briefly characterized.
