Magnetic fields in supernova remnants - results from radio continuum observations.
Abstract
General results of studies of percentage of polarization and magnetic field orientations in SNRs are discussed. Little common structure is found for either filled-center or shell-type SNRs. Common properties are found only in young shells and for tangential field orientations, which are found only for old SNRs. However, the radial field in the filled-center SNR G21.5 - 0.9 and the radial field in the old SNR G179.0 + 2.7 demonstrated that the structure of the ambient medium and/or the initial conditions of the supernova explosion may have a strong influence on the magnetic field orientation.
