The maximum entropy method for the analysis of short-time radar echoes from hovering helicopters
Abstract
The reflection of radar signals by helicopter rotor blades is explained. The maximum entropy (ME) method is presented. Its use is based on the model representation that the reflection mechanism of radar signals by rotating rotor blades can be considered as an autoregressive process. The results of simulation calculations as well as the analysis of real experimental data are discussed. It is shown that the use of the ME-method for the analysis of helicopter echoes requires that the frequency with which the received radar echoes are scanned is substantially higher than the bandwidth of the helicopter rotor lines.
