The Phobos project - The system of high accuracy of measuring of range of long-life Phobos lander
Abstract
The paper describes the design principles of a radio range measurement system for determining the range to a lander on the surface of Phobos. The range measurement accuracy (about 10 m) should make it possible to determine the Mars gravitational constant as well as other celestial-mechanics constants. The measurement technique used relies on pseudorandom sequences with signal remodulation in the onboard-receiver input; the efficiency of carrier phase modulation with an index of 0-120 deg is noted.
