Antimatter: Its history and its properties
Abstract
The conceptual developments of quantum theory and special relativity which culminated in the discovery of and understanding of antimatter are reviewed. In particular, it is emphasized how quantum theory and special relativity together imply that antimatter must exist. Our modern understanding of antimatter is summarized in the CPT theorem of relativistic quantum field theory. The implications of this theorem have never been contradicted.
