Analysis of hadron production in deep inelastic muon-proton collisions through the fire-string model
Abstract
Experimental results on hadron production in deep-inelastic muon-proton collisions are analyzed in terms of the Fire-String model. Most features of the hadronic final states are satisfactorily accounted for. Discrepancies can be almost always traced back to a few well-defined phenomenological characteristics of the model, and give an indication about a possible improvement. In a few cases, the discrepancy between theory and experiment shows possible inconsistencies in the reported data, on the basis of general physical principles obeyed by the Fire-String model, but naturally found in any reasonable picture of strong interactions.
