Image analysis of the spinning cylinder near wake
Abstract
An experimental determination of statistical properties of the interface separating turbulent and nonturbulent fluid in stationary and spinning cylinders near wake has been made by means of flow visualization and image processing techniques. The results, which comprise intermittency factor, auto- and cross correlations, auto- and cross spectra, and phase spectra, indicate that the rotation of the cylinder provides substantial changes in the structure of the flow, and the interface position may be regarded as a stationary Gaussian random variable.
