Numerical calculation of flow past a moving plate
Abstract
Laminar longitudinal flow past a plate moving with or against the flow is investigated numerically using full NavierStokes equations in current functionvelocity vortex variables. The equations are solved by using an implicit (in the transverse direction) scheme with a special approximation of the Poisson equation for the current function. A difference analog of the current function equation is solved using an iteration splitting scheme with variational optimization and cyclic acceleration of convergence. It is shown that the drag coefficient of a plate moving against the flow is greater than that of a plate at rest, whereas the drag coefficient of a plate moving with the flow is less than in both of the above cases.
